ANDRO/URO EVALUATION
Despite prevalent myths, infertility is not exclusive to women.
Problems related to sperm quality and production are increasingly recognized as significant contributors to infertility among couples. Furthermore, infertility often
stems from multiple factors.
Therefore, when couples encounter difficulties conceiving, both partners are typically recommended to undergo fertility evaluations.
Various tests are available to diagnose infertility and pinpoint its underlying causes.
It’s crucial to acknowledge that even with these tests, the root cause of infertility in men may remain unidentified.
Nonetheless, some of the most commonly employed tests include:
- Semen analysis
- DNA Fragmentation Test
- Fructose Test
- Physical examination by a Urologist
- Prostate Sonogram
The most frequent urological issues necessitating referral to a primary care physician or urological surgeon can be categorized into those affecting the lower urinary tract and those impacting the upper urinary tract.
While a thorough medical history can sometimes diagnose conditions like renal colic or testicular torsion, identifying non-specific symptoms can prove challenging.
Symptoms:
The bladder is often an unreliable informant.
Sensory innervation primarily occurs via parasympathetic nerves, while pain from overdistension is mediated through the sympathetic nervous system.
However, pinpointing the exact location and cause of symptoms in the lower and upper urinary tracts based solely on autonomic innervation is often limited.
Similar symptoms can arise from various underlying conditions.
Assessing urological issues based on symptoms requires understanding the extent to which the patient’s symptom description can be relied upon and framing questions effectively to ensure clarity for the patient.
